How do we Arrange the Funeral?
Usually the Funeral will be arranged through a local Funeral Service chosen by the relatives.
The Funeral Service will make contact with the clergy and arrange a date for the Funeral.
The clergy will then be in touch with the relatives and arrange a time to come and see them.
Will the clergy visit?
The clergy usually visit the relatives before the Funeral. They will be concerned for the relatives in their bereavement. They will talk with the relatives about the person who has died, what might be included in the Funeral and discuss any other questions and concerns.
The Funeral
The Church of England offers a set form of Funeral Service. However within the structure of the Service there is the flexibility to reflect the life of the person who has died. The clergy will discuss this with the relatives when they visit. The clergy may suggest different ways in which the Funeral might reflect the life of the person who has died.
The clergy may offer to visit in the month after the Funeral. Through the Next of Kin, the relatives and friends will be invited to a Service of Commemoration at the Parish Church within a year of the Funeral. This is a popular service, held on a Sunday afternoon, with tea served afterwards
Can we have hymns?
The choice as to whether or not there should be hymns is up to the Next of Kin. Should you wish to have hymns the clergy can suggest suitable choices. It is also possible to have a CD of a suitable song played at the Funeral
Can we say something?
Again this the decision of the Next of Kin. Should a friend or family member wish to read a poem or deliver a short eulogy, there is space for this in the Funeral. The clergy will be able to advise you.
Can we be buried in the Churchyard?
The Churchyard is legally closed to new burials. Only those who have an existing family grave or cremation plot in the Churchyard can be buried there today.
Most people are buried in the cemeteries owned by the Borough Council.
The local Funeral Services can advise you about the options.
How much will it cost?
The cost of a Funeral depends on what is chosen
One of the local Funeral Services will be able to advise you of the cost.
